The finalist students of the Jaime Moniz Secondary School fulfilled the tradition today with the Bênção das Capas ceremony. A symbolic moment for students and families because it also corresponds to the end of secondary education, which will be followed by the option of higher studies or entry into the job market.
Dressed properly, in a suit and cassock, boys and girls marked “the spot” at the main door of the ESJM, which registered an unusual movement earlier this Friday afternoon, such was the influx of a crowd to watch the parade of the students. The godmother of the ceremony, Cristina Pedra, president of ACIF, was accompanied by the students and the president of the Executive Council of the Liceu, Jorge Moreira de Sousa, as well as by the president of the Finalists Committee, José Prada.
The ESJM currently has 600 students attending the 12th year of schooling, most of whom are keen to participate in the Bênção das Capas ceremony.
After the concentration in the main atrium of the ESJM and the usual photos, the usual parade through the city center followed to the Cathedral for the liturgical celebration, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Funchal, D. António Carrilho. A religious ceremony with great participation by students and parents.
After the religious component, the profane dimension of the event: the fraternization dinner and the long-awaited prom. Unique moments for the lives of these students.
