Two former students from Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz are currently receiving outstanding honors for their academic excellence. Clara Vasconcelos and Ana Isabel Ferreira, both studying in Higher Education, obtained, respectively, important national distinctions, as has been reported by Diário de Notícias do Funchal.
Clara Vasconcelos was a student at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz on the Scientific-Humanistic Course, with an academic career of excellence (average of 19,4). At the moment, she is studying a degree in Biomedical Engineering, at Instituto Superior Técnico, at the University of Lisbon, and was the only Madeiran name, among the one hundred students distinguished with New Talents Scholarships from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, to win this award. The minimum value to be awarded for this scholarship is 2.500 euros, including support for paying tuition fees, encouraging research and talent enrichment activities.
Also worth mentioning is Ana Isabel Ferreira, aged 18, another young woman in focus, as she is the only Madeiran student on the list of ten candidates awarded the APIFARMA-Portuguese Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry Merit Scholarship. This student is attending the Basic cycle of the Medicine course at the University of Madeira and was also a student who distinguished herself in her academic career in the three years of secondary education at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz.
In addition to their studies, both students have a very close relationship with sport, as Clara Vasconcelos is a talented Karateka, while Ana Isabel was a rhythmic gymnastics athlete at Marítimo.
Both young women serve as an inspiration to other students at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, as their effort, resilience and creativity have been a gateway to academic and, in the future, professional success.
