On November 22nd, Jaime Moniz Secondary School was the stage for an exciting Conference on Humanitarian Mission, part of the “Together We Learn and We Grow” project. The event, held in the Dr. Jorge Moreira de Sousa Conference Room, brought together students and teachers, in a remarkable morning of reflection and inspiration.
With the theme “Humanitarian Mission – Today and Forever”, the conference began at 10 am and lasted until 11:25 am, providing a conducive environment to explore works and actions aimed at a more just, dignified and equitable world.
The first part of the event was marked by the presentation of the speaker, Professor Bruno Gouveia, whose experience in humanitarian missions deeply touched those present. His story of human commitment served as an inspiration to students, awakening curiosity and critical thinking about urgent social issues.
In the second part of the conference, the audience watched the documentary “A Rota dos Livros”, a mission carried out by the guest speaker in 2002, which consisted of carrying out a long motorbike trip, from Portugal to Mozambique with the purpose of delivering Portuguese language books and dictionaries for the most needy children. The documentary presented profound questions about solidarity, respect and tolerance, stimulating meaningful learning and the promotion of a more inclusive society. Soon afterwards, there was a dynamic and interactive moment, where students had the opportunity to participate actively.
The Coordinators of Curricular Complement and Enrichment Activities, Carla Rodrigues and Teresa Rodrigues de Almeida, expressed their gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of everyone involved. “This conference is an important step towards fostering core values and promoting collaboration among students, teachers and the entire school community.”
The Conference on Humanitarian Mission at Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz enabled students to become more aware and motivated to contribute to a better world.
